Technology key assistance for students with disabilities

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Technology is becoming a key assistance to students with disabilities.

In order for special education teachers to keep up with the constant development of the new technology available, faculty members at the University of Southern Mississippi held a workshop on Friday.

Teachers from all over the South attended the seminar and learned new ways on how to use technology and meet the needs of students in a way that makes learning fun and beneficial.

“By using technology we are seeing students become more vocal,” said USM Associate Professor, Sharon Rouse. “Those who cannot speak, we're seeing them use motor skills in which they've not used before because it becomes interactive, therefore it is very helpful to them in their learning process.”

Along with technology, the teachers also learned about the importance of bullying awareness.
