(RNN) - A deleted tweet by Chick-fil-A president Dan T. Cathy has thrust the fast-food restaurant back into the spotlight after the Supreme Court's June 26 ruling that struck down the Defense of Marriage Act and Proposition 8.

On Wednesday, according to the Wall Street Journal, in response to the Court ruling Cathy tweeted:

"Sad day for our nation; founding fathers would be ashamed of our gen. to abandon wisdom of the ages re: cornerstone of strong societies."

The statement was deleted shortly afterwards.

Chick-fil-A became the subject of controversy last year when Cathy spoke out against same-sex marriage. The company also has made significant financial donations to organizations that have drawn fire from gay rights advocates.

Among the companies that have received millions from Chick-fil-A are the Marriage and Family Foundation, Exodus International and the Family Research Council.

Company spokeswoman Carrie Kurlander apparently responded to the deleted message saying, "Dan Cathy, like everyone in this country, has his own views. However, Chick-fil-A is focused on providing great tasting food and genuine hospitality to everyone."

    The City of Hattiesburg warned its residents about an email scam making its rounds on Tuesday.  "Today, a Hattiesburg resident made city officials aware of an email scam regarding parking tickets," read the email from the city.  All tickets issued by Hattiesburg's Parking Division are paper and will not be delivered electronically, according to city clerk Kermas Eaton.
