Country singers lead summer music camp for kids

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The Academy of Country Music's summer camp called Lifting Lives is in full swing this week with country music stars serving as camp counselors.

The program's open to people with Williams syndrome, a condition that causes developmental problems.

Earlier this week, campers wrote a song with musician Jerrod Neimann, and they recorded their single Wednesday with singer Jake Owen.

"Everyone that's here has a love and passion for music, and that's where we first and foremost all hit it off, because we all have that same feeling. It's something that I'll definitely always remember," Owen said.

This camp with the coolest counselors around is not over yet.

It wraps up Friday night at the Grand Ole Opry when campers perform their song on stage with Neimann.

Following a school-record 55 wins and run that ended in an 8-7 loss in the NJCAA national championship, Jones County Junior College softball is eager to open the 2018 season on February 3. Coming that close to the school’s first national title serves as motivation enough for the Lady Bobcats. Regardless, expectations are always high for coach Chris Robinson’s teams – JCJC is a combined 105-12 the last two seasons.
