Driver jumps into Cumberland River after stopping for police

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A bizarre police pursuit on foot ended up in the water after a routine traffic stop.

Metro officers pulled over a car on Pennington Bend on Tuesday evening, but instead of talking to police, the driver got out and ran.

The driver then jumped into the Cumberland River and swam for a while before officers on a boat plucked him out of the water.

Police haven't yet said why he took off or released his name.
