New commander takes over Medical Task Force Shelby

CAMP SHELBY, MS (WDAM) -

Medical Task Force Shelby has a new man in charge. In a change of command ceremony Tuesday Colonel James Grady relinquished command to Lieutenant Colonel Brett Venable.

Venable is an 18-year army vet. He comes to Camp Shelby from Germany where he has spent the last fiver-years.

Venable is a distinguished military graduate of Old Dominion where he received his commission. He will lead the unit that is responsible for ensuring the health of soldiers who are deploying overseas and returning from those deployments.

"Colonel Grady was a great commander," said Venable. "I'm going to pick up the torch and continue to move the organization forward. I really look forward to working with the soldiers and civilians here at Camp Shelby."

Col. Grady has been commander at the medical task force for the last two-years. During that time more than 40,000 soldiers have medically processed through the unit. His next command takes him to Sembach Germany where he will take over as Chief of Clinical Operations for the European Regional Medical Command.

"I'm honored to have been a part of taking care of over 40,000 soldiers that passed through our gates preparing for and redeploying for overseas contingency operations," said Grady. "I had a wonderful team here at Camp Shelby and it's going to be a place I will miss."

During the ceremony Grady was awarded the meritorious service medal for his accomplishments while at Camp Shelby.
