HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Pearl River Community College has been selected as one of the 50 best community colleges in the nation by a leading higher education-career website.

TheBestSchools.org has ranked PRCC as number 28.

Several factors were considered in the ranking, including comparisons of a number of studies and the college's reputation.

PRCC has also been listed among the top 10 percent of community colleges by the Aspen Institute and last year, the college was ranked number 20 in the nation in the CNN Money listing of top community colleges.

"We're very, very excited about this," said Dr. William Lewis, president of Pearl River Community College. "It's just a great endorsement of our college and the work that's gone on here by our faculty, staff, students, Board of Trustees," he said.

There are more than 1,100 community colleges in the U.S.
