HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Hattiesburg Planning Commission has approved the plan to redevelop Midtown Hattiesburg.

The commissioners held a business meeting and a public hearing Wednesday afternoon where they voted unanimously requesting the City of Hattiesburg to adopt the Midtown Hattiesburg Master Plan and the Form-Based Code.

Midtown includes neighborhoods North of Forrest General, South of Hardy Street, and West of Highway 49 to South 31st Avenue.

The goal of the Midtown Hattiesburg Master Plan is to create a mixed use community where people can live, work, shop, and dine.

“We make recommendations to the city council,” said Chair of Hattiesburg Planning Commission, Dick Conville. “When the city council acts, which would be July second, if they act to approve it then the building codes will become a part of the Hattiesburg building codes, just for that area though.”

If the City of Hattiesburg adopts the amendments, the Hattiesburg clinic will be ready to build a 46,000 square foot administrative building on Arlington Loop, West of the cancer center.
