Craig Wiseman to perform at Festival South

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

If you're a Hattiesburg native, you might run into an old friend on Friday night wearing his signature Hawaiian button down with his toenails painted red.

Craig Wiseman is the writer of popular country songs such as "Live Like you were Dying" by Tim McGraw, "The Good Stuff" by Kenny Chesney, and several other acts.

He was named country music's Songwriter of the Decade in 2009. Wiseman says many of his songs are influenced by his memories of his life in Hattiesburg.

"You know, it's funny. One of my Kenny Chesney hits, called Young, was written for my 20th high school reunion," Wiseman said.

Craig Wiseman attended Hattiesburg High School.

He calls Hattiesburg the touchtone of his songwriting after talking about "Young," the hit he wrote for Kenny Chesney.

He also suggests that folks should step away from the computer and get back in touch with reality.

Festival South is Mississippi's only multi-week, multi-genre arts festival. It's a ticketed event featuring the arts, including music, art, dance, and theatre.

General admission tickets for Craig Wiseman are $20. His performance for Festival South is Friday at 7:30 at the Saenger Theater in Downtown Hattiesburg.
