Despite raging wild fires back home Colorado volunteers stay to help

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A church group from Colorado has been in Hattiesburg this past week helping several residents in Hattiesburg and Petal with recovery from February's tornado.

Despite threatening wild fires back home that are threatening to destroy many of their homes they have stayed and continued to help. Families of thirteen members of the First Baptist Church of Black Forest have been evacuated because their homes are in the danger zone and their church is itself is in danger of burning down.

During the week the group assisted with clean-up, cutting down trees, and putting blue tarps on roofs.

"We're staying, this is where God called us. This is going to be, God is on his throne," said Matthew Morton, College Pastor. "We're going to control what is our ability right now, serving other people, and loving God and loving people."

The group began their long journey back to Colorado on Thursday.
