Plans to be finalized for memorial for Cleveland Strangler victims

A group of ministers hope to make a decision Thursday night on what to do with the property where Anthony Sowell killed 11 women.

The Mount Pleasant Ministerial Alliance will meet with relatives of the victims so they can choose between a number of designs for a memorial and park.

19 Action News Reporter Ed Gallek was first showed the designs last month. Plans include a park, benches, special landscaping, memorial walls and more.

The cost could be as much as $300,000. The Reverend Jimmy Gates says he expects about $135,000 from the city, and the group will raise the rest from donations.

Although the design is expected to selected on Thursday night, but actual groundbreaking may still be months away.

The 13th-ranked Golden Eagles took advantage of MTSU starter Jake Wyrick’s wildness, mixing six walks in with three hits to build an early lead on the way to a 9-1 Conference USA victory over the Blue Raiders.
