GRANGER TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) -

One person has died following a head-on collision in Granger Township early Thursday morning.

The accident happened around 5:30 a.m. on SR 18.

Gilberto Ralios, 20, was traveling westbound on State Route 18 when he drove left of center and hit another car head-on. Ralios' vehicle became fully engulfed in flames. He was freed from the vehicle by two good Samaritans who had stopped to assist at the scene.

Navy veteran Trevor Worrall saw the vehicle swerving with its lights off, and he called 911 and tried to signal the driver with his lights.

He estimated Ralios was going at least 80 when his Ford Fusion smashed head on into a 1996 Chrysler being driven by Eric Kaskevic, 34, of Strongsville.

"I cut the seat belt off, we pulled him out as I was cutting the seat belt out, two guys with fire extinguishers were keeping the flames down," Worrall said.

Kaskevic's passenger Chad Nelson, 29, was transported by Life Flight to Akron General Hospital where Nelson later died.

Kaskevic was taken by ambulance to Metro, where he remains in fair condition.

Seatbelts were used and alcohol appears to be a factor in this fatal crash.

The Medina County Sheriff's Department says the accident was not weather-related.
