Self-proclaimed healer claims to work miracles without medication

TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -

A lot of people turn to acupuncture, meditation and even prayer to alleviate symptoms of chronic ailments. But a man says he can heal without medication and without physical contact.

It may be hard to believe, but Alex J. Hermosillo insists he has seen the other side.

"I had a near-death experience in 1997 due to internal bleeding, and I arrived in heaven," he said. Hermosillo said he learned how to heal others through that experience. Eight years and 5,000 sessions later, Hermosillo said he has helped treat cancer, diabetes, heart disease and depression.

"I would just have you lay down and relax, cover you with a blanket and just place my hands over you," Hermosillo said. And that's all he does. He said his hands hover over energy points throughout the body. An average session costs around $220.

"I can actually feel people's energy. It feels like a magnet," he said.

"I was just a mess, physically. I couldn't function, I couldn't take care of my children, my husband, myself," said Lilia Angelo. She said in 2008, she suffered from postpartum depression. She said she tried medication and therapy, but nothing made her feel better. She said her homeopathic doctor suggested she go see Hermosillo.

"Ten minutes into the session, I started feeling a sense of calmness and peace come over me," she said.

Hermosillo said he is now teaching Angelo the ropes so she can heal others. And he conducts group healing and over-the-phone sessions.

"They can actually feel their hands getting warm and tingling sensations," he said.

Of course, Hermosillo said he recommends seeing a doctor first if something is wrong, but tells skeptics to give him 45 minutes and an open mind.

"I'm just another piece of that, of helping," Hermosillo said.
