New man takes the helm of the 177th Armored Brigade

CAMP SHELBY, MS (WDAM) -

The 177th Armored Brigade at Camp Shelby has a new commander and senior enlisted man.

In a change of command ceremony Wednesday Colonel William Chlebowski took the reins from Colonel Dale Kuehl and Command Sgt. Major Matthew McDowell took over for Command Sgt. Major Andrew Swanson.

Chlebowski received his commission in 1989 at Valley Forge Military Academy. McDowell is originally from Evansville Ind and is a 28-year veteran.

The 177th is responsible for training, mobilization, deployment, and demobilization of reserve component units.

" As many people know the missions are evolving for the army particularly with the draw down in Afghanistan and budgetary challenges," said Chlebowski. "It's going to be a little while before we figure where the organization is going. In the near term we are going to continue to mobilize and demobilize soldiers and be sure they are taken care of while deployed."

The ceremony also marked the retirement of Command Sgt. Major Swanson after nearly 28-years of service.
