NORTH RIDGEVILLE, OH (WOIO) -

Mum's the word today at city hall in North Ridgeville after a humane officer shot and killed five kittens. That humane officer, Barry Accorti, is now back on the job after a couple days off.

Of course he's not talking and the city's mayor David Gillock avoided our cameras for the second day in a row.

The wild kittens lived in a wood pile behind a home on Vista Lake Way and were killed while children in the area watched. A neighbor said the kittens should have been put down elsewhere.

"I think it's pretty bad.  It would have been ok if it wasn't done with kids around," said a neighbor.

Noah Turner, the director of the state's SPCA, says North Ridgeville should be embarrassed over officer Accorti's behavior. The five kittens were about eight to ten weeks old and before officer Accorti killed them he explained why.

He told the homeowner the shelters were full and the kittens were going to kitty heaven.

The city's police chief stands behind the shooting - saying it was appropriate and that no disciplinary action will be taken.

Demonstrators plan to protest the shooting at 7 p.m. Wednesday night in the parking lot of the North Ridgeville Library.
