TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -

An Arizona State University football player faces charges after allegedly slamming a wooden board through his girlfriend's car window, police said.

The Tempe Police Department said Nduka "Junior" Onyeali, 22, got in a fight with his girlfriend on May 19 and smashed her driver's side windshield with a wooden board. Tempe police said his girlfriend was not in the vehicle at the time. He faces a misdemeanor domestic violence criminal damage charge.

In January 2012, Onyeali was suspended for an incident that happened last fall, but he was later reinstated by new head coach Todd Graham.

CBS 5 News contacted ASU Athletics and they released the following brief statement: "We are aware of the situation, and have engaged campus resources to review."

According to Sun Devil Athletics' website, Onyeali is from Denver and is a senior at ASU.

Onyeali's teammate, Andres Rafael Garcia, 22, is facing charges after an unrelated incident over the weekend.

The Tempe Police Department said detectives arrested Garcia late Sunday night on two counts of sexual assault and one count of assault/domestic violence.

Tempe police said Garcia got involved in a verbal argument with a 21-year-old female acquaintance early Friday morning, which escalated into a physical assault when Garcia allegedly shoved the victim backwards into a wall, knocking her unconscious.

Tempe police said Garcia asked to speak alone with the victim and allegedly sexually assaulted the victim who was unable to give consent, according to Tempe police.

ASU Athletics told CBS 5 News Tuesday that the Garcia has been dismissed from the football team. [Related: Tempe police arrest ASU football player on assault charges]
