Smyrna property taxes increasing but not as much as expected

SMYRNA, TN (WSMV) -

Property taxes are on the way up in Smyrna, but not as much as homeowners expected.

City leaders were calling for a 46-percent increase, but after hearing from residents, they approved a 19-percent increase instead.

The owner of a $150,000 house can expect to see their tax bill go up by about $56 a year.

Officials said they needed a tax hike to avoid job cuts and draining reserve funds.
