HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

President Obama said in his weekly radio address that the immigration reform bill being considered in the Senate would be good for the country. A vote to proceed on the bill is expected Tuesday.

"The bill before the Senate isn't perfect," Obama said, "...but it is a bill that's largely consistent with the principles I've repeatedly laid out for commonsense immigration reform."

Congressman Steven Palazzo said any immigration bill which includes amnesty is quote, "dead on arrival" as far as he's concerned. He said immigration reform should focus on border security first.

"We have to have operational control over our borders or we're just going to keep doing this every 10 years, every 10 years," Palazzo said. "And the people who broke the law to get here and are still here, not paying taxes, but basically taking services away from the hard-working Mississippi families, I don't see a pathway to their citizenship at all," he said.

Palazzo's comments were made in Hattiesburg Friday after he spoke at the Area Development Partnership's First Friday meeting.
