William Carey University expands its medical complex

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

William Carey University broke ground Thursday on a $1.3 Million addition to the medical complex.

Many gathered to bare witness to the symbolic turning of the dirt for the new 7,400 square foot Anatomy Building. University President Dr. Tommy King and others recognized a need for the new state of the art complex to keep pace with how fast the medical program at William Carey is growing.

King says, "Of course the growth of the medical school is the most exciting thing that has happened at William Carey in recent years and its that growth that made this necessary. We just finished recruiting our 4th class of 104 students."

The 4th Phase of the College of Osteopathic Medicine will allow more space and storage for those who've donated their bodies to science. The former anatomy lab will be converted into a medical research facility. The new building is expected to be completed in the Spring of 2014.
