PHOENIX (CBS5/AP) -

A man believed to be involved in the hit-and-run death of a Phoenix police officer has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter and leaving the scene of a crash.

Maricopa County court officials said Jesus Cabrera Molina, 24, made the plea at his arraignment Wednesday morning.

Molina was arrested earlier this month in the death of 29-year-old Officer Daryl Raetz.

Raetz was conducting a DUI stop May 19 in west Phoenix when another vehicle struck him and fled the scene.

The six-year police veteran later died in a hospital.

Police investigators matched pieces of the vehicle from the crime scene with parts that were missing from Molina's SUV.

Court documents show that Molina told police he was drinking and doing cocaine hours before the accident. But Molina insists he was at home asleep at the time of the crash.

Court paperwork said Molina was caught on surveillance video driving his SUV without damage just before the deadly crash.

Molina's next court date is scheduled for July 19.
