Early morning voting brisk at Rowan Elementary in Hattiesburg

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Voter turnout in the Hattiesburg municipal elections was brisk at Rowan Elementary Tuesday morning.

As the polls opened at the precinct early voters were forced to fill out affidavit ballots because the voting cards were not being read by the voting machines. The problem was quickly resolved and voting got back to normal. As the morning wore on a steady stream of voters continued to go to the polls. Only about 15 voters had to fill out affidavit ballots.

In Wayne County where two seats are being contested, early turnout was light. In the Mayor's race Richard Johnson is facing off against Lynn Mackey. In the Ward One Alderman race Tim Cochran is up against James Snyder.
