Governor Phil Bryant makes major economic development announcement

The Pine Belt is quickly becoming Mississippi's information technology highway. Governor Phil Bryant was on hand today as General Dynamics Information Technology announced its location, which is another new customer support center at Hattiesburg's Cloverleaf mall.

Three months ago, the company announced 250 jobs for its first call center. The new center is expected to provide at least another 1,000 jobs in Hattiesburg.

Governor Bryant announced Thursday that General Dynamics is locating an additional new customer support center in the Cloverleaf Center in Hattiesburg, which is expected to create 1,000 jobs. The company provides information technology to state and government sectors.

Governor Bryant relied on the "Ace" fund, and received $1 million for the new business.

"A few months ago, we gathered here to announce the opening of our first contact center to support our contact centers' Federal Student Aide Center," Bryant said.

The additional jobs come as a result of a new contract with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for Medicare and Medicaid programs.

United States Senator Roger F. Wicker also expressed excitement about the new facility.

"It's great to be part of this team, and it's great to have a second round of success," Wicker said.

Hattiesburg Senator Billy Hudson agrees this is a positive step forward for citizens.

"Thousands of new jobs will make a tremendous difference to the economy in the Pine Belt," Hudson said.

General Dynamics expects to add another 250 jobs by spring of 2014 due to the new Federal Student Aid Center.
