HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The artistic director for an upcoming annual Hattiesburg music festival met with the Hub City downtown business community Thursday morning.

Dr. Jay Dean spoke to a monthly meeting of the Historic Hattiesburg Downtown Association about FestivalSouth. It's the state's only multi-week, multi-genre arts event and it runs from June 8-22.

It will feature dozens of classical, jazz, blues, gospel and Broadway performances.

It opens with a concert from the Blues Brotherhood at the Saenger Theater at 7:30 p.m. Opening day will also feature the first Hattiesburg Craft Beer Fest at the Historic Train Depot from 1-4 p.m.

"There are going to be 28 breweries there, ranging from all the breweries in Mississippi to breweries that are on the West Coast," said Emily Curry, sales and marketing manager for Southern Prohibition Brewery of Hattiesburg.

"The morning events at the bookstores and coffee shops are free," said Dean. "Most of our events are ticketed, but we do have very reasonable prices," he said.
