Smith County searching for three inmates

SMITH COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

The Smith County Sheriff's Department is searching for three inmates who escaped Smith County Jail early Sunday morning.

According to Sheriff Charlie Crumpton,  at approximately 10:15 a.m., 31-year-old Gregory Tynon Jones from Jasper County and 32-year-old Terry Bynum from Smith County, both escaped by going over a 12 ft. wall that has four layers of razor wire on top.

The third inmate, 39-year-old William Shannon Burnham from Rankin County, is a trustee and walked out through the front door of the Smith County Jail.

According to Sheriff Crumpton, Burnham also has keys to the cells inside the jail. It is believed that all three inmates left together.
