HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Hundreds of students have received degrees from William Carey University during commencement ceremonies this weekend. Among them are four from China, who are the first to graduate as part of a recently-established exchange program.

The students are from the city of Linyi.

Saturday afternoon, business student Luna Liu received her bachelor of science degree in a 1 o'clock ceremony. Dozens of other students in the fields of business, education, missions, Biblical studies and music also got degrees.

"I'm so excited," said Liu. "This is my first bachelor's degree and this is my first degree in America. It's the end of my bachelor's education, but also a start of my next education," she said.

"It's a big step in our partnership and we expect for it to grow and continue to be strong in the future," said Dr. Tommy King, president of William Carey University.

Nearly 800 students graduated in four ceremonies on Friday and Saturday.
