HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A Hattiesburg High School senior will soon be on his way to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

Parker Krag has received an appointment to the academy. He got his acceptance packet Friday morning. Krag is one of the first students in Mississippi this year to receive an appointment. About a half dozen other seniors across the state will also be getting appointments.

"It's a huge honor, it really is," said Krag. "There are thousands of kids across the country that are probably equally or better qualified than me and I'm really just lucky to be one of the people selected," he said.

"He's been the kind of student you love to see coming and going," said Robert Sanders, principal of Hattiesburg High School. "He deserves this and I know he's going to do a great job," he said.

Krag is a member of the JR ROTC, Hattiesburg High Forensics and the soccer team. He leaves for Annapolis on June 27. He hopes to study either engineering or computers.
