DPS releases name of man killed when truck rolls into Nacogdoches Co. creek

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

A one-vehicle accident just outside Nacogdoches on Highway 7 claimed the life of a 38-year-old man Wednesday.

A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper said James Michael Anderson, of Nacogdoches, was traveling east toward Martinsville when his white Chevrolet Suburban slid off the road, hit a guardrail, and rolled into Atascoso Creek at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday. The SUV landed on its roof.

Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at 12:53 p.m.

Nacogdoches County Sheriff Jason Bridges said the Anderson had been missing for 12 hours before his Suburban was located.

"We got a call that a subject had been missing for twelve hours and they became concerned so we started looking for him," Bridges said.

Firefighters from the Nacogdoches Fire Department, Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office deputies, and a worker from the Texas Department of Transportation responded to the one-vehicle accident.

The scene had Highway 7 down to one lane for a while and completely blocked while crews raised the white Chevy Suburban out of the creek.

The Suburban was so beat up, the Jaws of Life were used.

All media was asked to not document the vehicle once they started cutting it open, due to how graphic the scene was.

And while the wet roads would appear to be to blame, Bridges said that the vehicle had been there for several hours, possibly before the rain had started to fall.

"We don't know yet," Bridges said. "It appears the vehicle has been there for some time, maybe since overnight."

A fact that brings little closure to the grieving family.
