Columbia Police nab car thief on parole for murder

While chasing a stolen truck Saturday, Columbia police officers witnessed the driver jump out of the moving truck. The passenger remained in the run-away-truck... Which crashed into a brick column.

41-year-old Tracy Fowler made his initial court appearance Monday for stealing a truck in Columbia and leading police on a chase. This is the aftermath of the pursuit was the stolen, red truck a top a brick column as the passenger was taken into custody. Police ran a check on Fowler's non-drivers license ID, which came back with a warrant for parole violation.

Det. Mike Cooper of the Columbia Police Department says, "Attempted to make a traffic stop on it at Highway 98, the vehicle turned East on 1-98 trying to allude officers and I guess when they realized they weren't going to outrun the cruisers the driver bailed at about 30mph. Officers did a good job of apprehending the suspects. They ran a Triple I, a background check, criminal history check on the suspects. The driver was actually wanted in Montgomery, AL, on a parole violation for murder."

Detective Cooper says along Fowlers' parole violation he is charged with grand larceny, resisting arrest, and has a $10,000 bond. Fowler is being held for the Alabama Department of Corrections and is expected to be extradited next Thursday.

    The Mississippi All-Stars wrapped up its third practice at Hattiesburg High school ahead of the 31st Mississippi/Alabama All-star game on Saturday at noon. Although Saturday’s contest at Southern Miss’ M.M. Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg is just an exhibition, the Mississippi players are taking it seriously.
