BRISTOL, CT (WFSB) -

An old Connecticut ballpark could be getting ready for its big screen debut.

Movie producers are looking at turning Bristol's Muzzy Field into a film set.

Centered around America's past time, the independent movie is called The First Out. According to the movie's website, it's about a star 18-year-old high school ball player drafted into the big leagues.

Afraid it might hurt his career before it even takes off, he hides his homosexuality, but is outed while playing in the minor leagues.

While the filmmakers have been working on this project for a while, interest is high, especially after pro basketball player Jason Collins announced he is gay.

The filmmakers said the time to tell a story like this is now and they hope it will help against bullying, hate crimes and push for equality.

Right now they're trying to make the film with a $2 million budget.

In addition to Bristol, the filmmakers are also considering shooting in New Jersey and California.

Bristol Mayor Art Ward told Eyewitness News if Muzzy Field makes the cut and this Bristol ballpark is picked, the shooting schedule would actually coincide with Muzzy Field's 100-year anniversary.

"It's just going to enhance the history of Muzzy field," Ward said. "It's renowned throughout the country historically, people who played here, Babe Ruth, the Boston Red Sox."

By next spring and summer, the picturesque park could add a little slice off Hollywood to its history.

"I think that's perfect. This field has a lot of history to it," said Gino Rafaniello, of Bristol, who grow up watching games at the field with his father. "The park would be a good option."
