How much do Mississippi's public college presidents make?

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -

The Chronicle of Higher Education released their annual ranking of executive compensation at 191 public colleges including Mississippi schools.

According to the Chronicle, public college leaders are seeing an increase in pay. The median base compensation rose to $441,392 from 2010-2011. 

They found four public college presidents earned more than $1 million in 2011-2012. Topping the list is ex-Pennsylvania State University President Graham Spanier. According to the Chronicle of Higher Education, Spanier received $2.9 million which is mostly severance pay and deferred compensation.

Second on the list was Auburn University President Jay Gogue. The Chronicle stated he earned $2.5 million in the most recent fiscal year. Most of that coming from a payout of five years of deferred compensation. Third on the list was Ohio State University-main campus president E. Gordon Gee.

As for the Mississippi public college president's total compensation for the 2012 fiscal year, according to the Chronicle, Mississippi State University's Mark Keenum's had $458,299. University of Mississippi president Daniel W. Jones received $454,298 and former University of Southern Mississippi president Martha Saunders made $369,125.

    Fans were waiting in the parking lot Wednesday outside Hattiesburg High School for tickets to go on sale for the 5A South State Championship Friday night. The Tigers are hosting the Laurel Tornadoes in a I-59 showdown.  The game, a repeat of the "Lil' Brown Jug" game will give the Tornadoes the chance at revenge, after Hattiesburg won the rivalry game 20-14 in August.
