HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The University of Southern Mississippi held their Campus Beautification Day of Giving on Wednesday.

The 24-hour crowd funding day provides alumni, students, employees and friends the opportunity to prove the positive impact they can make in the wake of the devastation to the campus.

According to USM Foundation Manager of Annual Giving and Special Projects, Megan Burkes, the total price for restoring the campus is $3 million.

"Seventy-five trees were lost from the front of campus after the tornado hit," said Burkes. "We realize there was a great need to bring back the beauty. We're trying to raise money to bring it back. "

The Campus Beautification Day of Giving will end Wednesday at midnight. As of 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, the public donated almost $114,000.

To contribute to the restoration project, gifts can be made online HERE or by calling 601-266-5210.
