HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Mississippi's largest privately-owned, multi-specialty outpatient medical facility is celebrating its golden anniversary. Hattiesburg Clinic turned 50 on May 1 and Wednesday morning, physicians and employees gathered to commemorate the anniversary.

Ten local physicians, along with 14 employees, started the clinic back in 1963.

Doctors Richard H. Clark, Jr. and Dawson B. Conerly, Jr. are the only surviving founders.

"The main thing is taking care of patients and getting sick folks well, which has been our goal," said Clark. "We didn't have any studies done to see if it was a good idea, we just did it," he said.

"I'm really very proud of this," said Dr. Conerly. "I had no idea it would become such a big concern. I thought maybe it might grow to be 30 or 40 physicians in my lifetime, but it has outdone itself," he said.

Currently, Hattiesburg Clinic has 300 physicians and providers and nearly 2,000 employees.
