Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover's fight against building a dog park is set to make a major step Tuesday morning.
Mayor Glover is being represented by a city attorney and is set to be in Caddo District Court at 10 a.m. Glover is heading to court in the next phase of the dog park lawsuit. While he is in court, tax payer will split the bill for his legal expenses.
The lawsuit against the Mayor claims he is violating the City Charter and his oath of office by not approving an agreement already signed by the Shreveport City Council and the Red river Waterway Commission. The agreement allows the commission funds to be used specifically for a dog park.
City Council member Michael Corbin says the City Council has already announced they do not support the Mayor's actions and if this goes further, they may ask the Mayor to pay the city back for his legal expenses. "He [Mayor] could certainly appeal this up to the various courts. One thing the City Council could do is come back at the end of the process and ask for reimbursement of legal expenses, if that is something we choose to do," says Corbin.
Some dog owners say until a dog park is built it puts everyone who uses city parks in an uncomfortable position. "I'm sure there are a lot of people who come here, and are afraid of dogs, so there are a lot of people who don't necessarily want dogs running around," says dog owner Brett Mason.
