Annual post office "Stamp out Hunger" food drive Saturday

Posted: Updated:

The National Association of Letter carriers 21st Annual "Stamp out Hunger" food drive is scheduled for Saturday.

Letter carriers throughout the Pine Belt will collect non-perishable food items left at mailboxes. Residents wanting to contribute should leave the items in a bag next to the mailbox by 9 a.m. Saturday morning.

Locally the items will go to support Christian Services, The Salvation Army of Hattiesburg, and the Edwards Street Fellowship Center.

"Most food drives are done in the fall, so this one is very important to us," said Alicia Catrett, V.P. National Association of Letter Carriers. "We know how much it helps the community to put food back on the shelves of our local food pantries."

At the downtown post office Monday, Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny Dupree issued a proclamation recognizing the letter carriers.
