Laurel residents attempt to win much needed mobility van

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

This May marks the 2nd annual celebration of National Mobility Awareness Month.

To help celebrate, the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association is giving away at least three custom wheelchair accessible vehicles to local heroes across the United States and Canada.

Although entry to the contest is now closed, Laurel resident, Jerri Hodge has made it into the competition and is sharing her story on how she and her brother Robby have overcome the challenges of living with a disability.

“The vehicle that we have now it is a full size van, and it has a specialized lift in it, and two tie downs for each of our chairs, and it has been extremely important in our lives, but it is literally falling apart,” said Jerri. “It would mean the world to get the new van to be able to continue what we're doing.”
