Pine Belt residents run for breath to help cystic fibrosis

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Dozens of Pine Belt residents spent their afternoon running for a good cause on Sunday.

The University of Southern Mississippi’s Pre-medical Associations held their first annual Running for Breath 5k and 1 mile run/walk.

Residents came out to Longleaf Trace and ran for cystic fibrosis.

USM pre-med student David Kahler, used his friend as a inspiration to start the event, and thanks to all the support, the Great Strides Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in Jackson will continue being funded for research.

“Being a doctor is giving back to the community, so that's what we are trying to teach students to do, just serve the community,” said Kahler.

The students hope to make it an annual event to continue funding research for cystic fibrosis.
