LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

Art lovers in the Laurel area gathered Saturday to enjoy fine art, good food and live music, while raising money for scholarships.  They made their way to Mason Park for the 41st annual Day in the Park.

It was hosted by the Laurel Arts League.

It featured more than 60 vendors selling art, arts and crafts and food. It also had entertainment from blues and bluegrass musicians.

Organizers hoped to bring in about $10,000.

"This is our major fundraiser that we do every year," said Andrea Milham, chairperson for Day in the Park. "The money that we raise here today we use to provide scholarships for seniors who are going into art degree majors," she said.

"Everybody has been very positive and people in Laurel are very supportive of the arts and so, it's been worth my while," said Chad Mars, a Jackson painter who had many of his works available for purchase at the event.

"We come every year," said Josh Thrash of Laurel. "We love the arts and crafts. I've got two children and they just love coming," he said.

More than 200 people also took part in a 5K and one mile fun run for the event.
