Rachel Beech is a native of Flowood, Mississippi. Although still enrolled in school at The University of Southern Mississippi, she will be graduating this May. She decided to follow her dad's footsteps by attending USM. She began working for WDAM in April after meeting Randy Swan at a career fair at The University of Southern Mississippi. Rachel interned for WDAM's sister station WLBT in Jackson, MS in the summer of 2010, which confirmed her decision to pursue a career in the broadcast journalism field.

In college, she was actively involved in Kappa Delta Sorority where she served as the Pan-Hellenic representative; however, her most valuable experience in college was her involvement on the Student Printz staff where she served as a news reporter and photographer. She served as a press intern in Washington, D.C. for The Honorable Senator Roger F. Wicker in spring of 2012 to learn more about the legislative process.

"I have always been passionate about what is going on in other parts of the world, and I realize the importance of conveying that message to others," Beech said. "I also see great value in helping others find justice in different situations; however, I aim to use reporting as a justice-seeking missile." Rachel was awarded "Best Opinion/Editorial Writer" as well as "Best Digital Multimedia Journalist" before being chosen as a recipient for Who's Who of American Colleges and Universities at Southern Miss her senior year.
