LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

More than two dozen candidates running for office in the Laurel municipal elections gathered Thursday night to share their campaign platforms with the public.

A primary election forum at Laurel High School featured all 28 candidates running for seats on the City Council and the office of mayor.

Each candidate had five minutes to make their presentations.

"Some candidates can't afford to advertise, some candidates can't afford to hold big catfish parties and things like that," said Jason Niblett, advertising manager for The Chronicle newspaper and forum organizer. "So, we wanted to give everybody an equal playing field to get our here and talk to the voting public," he said.

The forum was sponsored by The Chronicle and WDAM-TV.
