PHOENIX (CBS5) -

It was a memorable day for family and friends of 70 Phoenix-based soldiers as their loved ones returned home Thursday from active duty.

The troops were deployed in Qatar in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. It was the first time the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment 850th Military Police Battalion of the Arizona Army National Guard was mobilized, according to Army spokesman Sgt. Ed Balaban.

The unit arrived about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the 161st Air Refueling Wing located at 24th Street and Old Tower Road in Phoenix.

East Marion volleyball finished 20-5 a season ago, falling to the eventual state runner-up Resurrection in the first round of the playoffs. The Eagles are hungry for more in 2017. "They have that fever," said sixth-year East Marion volleyball coach Mandell Echols. "They want to take [Resurrection's] place and end up winning the championship."
