Miss America producer speaks at Spirit of Women event

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Mississippi native who produces the Miss America Pageant spoke at an annual event for Forrest General Hospital's Spirit of Women. Sam Haskell was keynote speaker Tuesday for the 8th annual Spirit of Women Spring Event at the Lake Terrace Convention Center.

Haskell is from Amory and is a retired executive with the William Morris Agency. He's also the author of the memoir, Promises I Made My Mother.

"My wife is a former Miss Mississippi and we always made it a point to come back here for different charity events and different events at Ole Miss, where we both graduated," said Haskell. "And to speak to a group like the Spirit of Women, who embrace the importance of the empowerment of women, is something that my wife Mary and I both believe in," he said.

"Sam is just an incredible man," said Millie Swan, chief marketing and medical staff services officer for Forrest General Hospital. "He's done so much and represented his state so well and so, we're just thrilled he could come," she said.

Haskell was a former executive vice president and worldwide head of television for the William Morris Agency.  He retired from that organization in 2005. 

Spirit of Women is a national movement led by hosptitals acoss the country.  Its goal is to encourage women to take better care of themselves.
