Jones County Women’s Life Conference features 2003 abduction survivor

ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) -

The 23rd Women's Life Conference was held on Saturday at Jones County Junior College.

Presented by South Central Regional Medical Center, the event featured dozens of health booths, numerous health screenings, and hundreds of giveaways.

Hundreds of women attended the fun, fit, and fabulous event which included keynote speaker, Elizabeth Smart.

Smart was abducted in 2002 and found by police nine months later after being held prisoner. Through her experience she became a child advocate and now motivates parents and law enforcement to focus on children’s safety.

With a room filled with 540 women, Smart demonstrated that there is life after a tragic event.

“Terrible things happen,” said Smart. “It’s just unfortunately part of life, but that doesn’t mean that we need to hold ourselves back, or not believe in ourselves enough to move forward. We don’t need to continually repeat what’s happened to us, we can move forward.”

Seven on your Side’s morning news anchor, Miranda Beard, was this year’s Host of the Day.
