Jones County first responders show students prom and graduation dangers

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

One Jones County student is dead, another has been air lifted to Jackson with life threatening injuries - in a simulated disaster.

The mock accident is intended to replicated what often happens during prom and graduation season to help students understand the dangers.

Emergency responders along with several Juniors and Seniors from Northeast Jones High School gave a real-life demonstration of a car crash, putting a face on what happens at the scene of an automobile accident.

Hundreds of students were on hand at the Northeast Jones High School football stadium to witness the tragedy of a single bad decision, in this case, of drinking and driving. They also stressed the dangers of texting and driving. During the scenario one student was ejected from the vehicle and killed, two student seriously injured and one being air lifted by helicopter.

The jaws of life were used to extricate the driver of one vehicle while the driver of another was arrested on the scene for driving while intoxicated.

Coordinators stressed to the students how they needed to consider whether or not to get into a vehicle if they know the driver is intoxicated or feel the driver is impaired in anyway.
