Shot Great Pyrenees gets new lease on life

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Thanks to the Animal ER Medical Center in Hattiesburg five-year old Winchester has a new lease on life.

Winchester was found earlier this year left to die in a field with two gunshot wounds. He was rescued and has spent the past few months recovering from his wounds at Aunt Linda's Pet Hotel in Oak Grove.

He has recovered from his wounds, however it was recently discovered he needed a very expensive surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Tuesday morning, Winchester was taken to Animal ER on Hardy St. for surgery. Dr. Paul Calhoun offered to perform the surgery for free. Dr. Calhoun says once Winchester recovers from the surgery he will be able to lead a normal life.

"We do this surgery routinely hear at the Animal Medical Center, Animal ER, so when we got a hold of the right people to talk to and offer our services we were happy to do that," said Calhoun. "Winchester is a great dog as everyone knows."

Aunt Linda's is currently taking adoption applications at the pet hotel on Old Hwy. 11 in Oak Grove. He will be adopted out once he fully recovers from his surgery.
