Honor Flight takes WWII veterans to their memorial

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

They woke up before the crack of dawn for a trip in their honor.  More than 80 World War II veterans met at Gulfport Biloxi International Airport.  And just a short time ago, they boarded a plane bound for the nation's capitol.

Once they land in Washington, the veterans will be escorted to the World War II Memorial.  They'll also get a tour of some of the other monuments that depict the history of this country.

The Honor Flight returns just after 7:00 tonight.  And you're asked to be at Gulfport Biloxi International Airport to give these veterans a heroes welcome.

WLOX News anchor Jeff Lawson is on this fifth Honor Flight.  We'll hear from him when the flight returns late tonight.  And we'll see a lot more from this emotional trip to the World War II Memorial this Thursday on WLOX News.
