AVONDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

A former Maricopa County Sheriff's Office detention officer will spend the next two years on the other side of the bars for stabbing his father during an alcohol-fueled fight.

Judge Margaret Mahoney sentenced CJ Joe, 28, on Friday to two years in prison as part of a plea agreement.

CJ Joe, a detention officer at the Maricopa County Durango Jail, stabbed his father, Curtis Joe, 55, with a Swiss Army knife at a home near 107th Avenue and Thomas Road after a night of drinking, police said in court paperwork.

CJ Joe's sister, Lauren Joe, said the father and son were arguing politics when CJ Joe stabbed their father on April 21, 2013. Officers found CJ Joe standing over his father, who was lying in the driveway.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said the Avondale Police Department arrested CJ Joe on suspicion of attempted murder.

CJ Joe has been employed with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office as a Detention Officer since 2005.
