NCS4 director says too early to speculate on Boston attack

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

While the investigation into Monday's tragic bombing at the Boston Marathon continues, locally the folks at the National Spectator Sports Safety and Security Center are beginning to look into how something like this could happen.

Once the cause has been determined, experts will come together to analyze the best practices currently in use and look at where they need to be modified to enhance the safety and security at sporting events.

With the attacks on the Twin Towers almost 12-years ago, some feel complacency has set in across the country. Center director Dr. Lou Marciani says he does not believe that was the case in Boston.

"The counter terrorism training, the exercising they do is phenomenal. It showed in the response yesterday," said Marciani. "If you take away anything from this event, it's the first responders and the medical people and the hospitals."

Marciani says close multi-agency collaboration has also vastly improved in the last few years.
