Private jet traffic up at Augusta Regional

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

Private jets are flying in filling up the slots at Augusta Regional's new general aviation terminal, shuttling guests in from thousands of miles away just for the Masters!

"Demand is huge," said Flight Options Regional Sales Director Michael McCafferty. "Today's hustle and bustle has been immense since the start of practice rounds."

Flight Options is one of the companies providing private service to the airport. Their numbers are up!

"Flight Options demand from our client base has increased about 95% in terms of people traveling to the masters," said McCafferty.

McCafferty showed me one of their newest jets, equipped with comforts he says are convincing frequent fliers to opt out of commercial service and fly private.

"Once you've experienced the ability, the convenience, the time saving of being able to use private jets, it is very hard to go back into the commercial arena," he said.

The popularity of this option is so immense, airport officials are struggling to meet the demand!

"I think we need to build more ramp space to accommodate more aircraft," said one official. "But for the most part, the demand is up and we're actually turning people away and have them go to the other three airports."

And though they're having to tell people "no," officials say there are worse problems the airport could have.
