HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Two New Yorkers have been presented prestigious Ezra Jack Keats Book Awards at the 46th annual Fay B. Kaigler Children's Book Festival at Southern Miss.

Julie Fogliano was presented the New Writer Award and Hyewon Yum received the New Illustrator Award at a luncheon at the Thad Cochran Center.

It's the second year USM has hosted the awards, which were formerly presented in New York City.

"The award has been going on for 27 years and many of the people who won the award have won many other awards later in their careers, so, it's a great way to begin," said Ellen Ruffin, curator of the De Grummond Children's Literature Collection at Southern Miss.

The Children's Book Festival wraps up Friday.
