NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Community leaders are pledging a reward for information in the fatal shooting of a Madison family's horse last month.

A 6-year-old female Tennessee Walking Horse named Sable was shot April 8 in the 500 block of East Campbell Road sometime between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.

The owners noticed Sable appeared ill that evening, and an equine veterinarian who later examined the horse found a wound from a gunshot that traveled through her ribs, internal organs and punctured a lung.

Sable died a short time later.

Now, the Madison Chamber of Commerce and Electric Service Credit Union president & CEO Ron Smith are offering a combined reward of $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the shooting.

Non-profit organization Animal Rescue Corps is also offering a $1,000 reward in the investigation.

Anyone who knows information about the shooting is asked to call Metro police at 615-862-8600 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
