COLUMBIA, MS (WDAM) -

A Pensacola-based company which has taken care of the laundry needs for many hospitals in our area for years is locating a new processing center in Marion County. Tuesday, Gov. Phil Bryant and Marion County economic developers announced that Crown Health Care Laundry Services will operate a facility in the Marion County Industrial Building.

The project will involve a multi-million dollar investment by the company, which will hire 150 employees.

The building, which has been vacant for three years, was a former garment factory and manufacturing facility for automobile harnesses.

"150 families will be affected by this great company," said Gov. Bryant. "Crown has been doing laundry for hospitals and medical centers for many years now and we're very proud to have them in Marion County," he said.

"Mississippi competed with Louisiana and other surrounding states and Mississippi just far and away gave us everything we needed to do business in Mississippi, they made it real easy to make the deal happen," said Don Haferkamp, president and CEO of Crown Health Care Laundry Services, Inc.

"The investment is going to be around $9 million total into this building and the increased taxes to the city and county will be approximately $200,000," said Jerry Frazier, president of the Marion County Development Partnership. "It's just a great day for Marion County and the City of Columbia," Frazier said.

The company could begin operations before Christmas of this year. At full capacity, the facility is expected to process 40,000,000 pounds of laundry each year.
